Case file to solve

A case file to solve is a dossier you close together: documents, clues, and one final theory. On this shop the PDF arrives by email. A printed copy, sent by post, is on the Italian shop: Venier after the order, Halloween after the case launches. No mandatory app, and no roles to perform.

Case file to solve

For a case, not a party

It is for anyone who wants a mystery closed in one evening: as a couple, solo, or with up to six people. It works if you would rather read and discuss than wear costumes, follow a host, or race to guess first. A case usually takes 90–120 minutes, and you can stop at the end of a phase and pick it up later.

What a case to solve means

01

One event, shared evidence

Something has to be explained: a theft, a death, an evening that does not add up. Everyone reads the same documents. Nobody has a secret role to defend.

02

A PDF, or a posted file in Italy

Here you receive a PDF and print it when you want. The Italian shop can also send a printed case file by ordinary post: Venier after the order, Halloween from launch. The game on the table is the same.

03

One shared theory

The person who talks the most does not win. By the end the group should be able to say what happened, who could have done it, and which document supports that. The solution stays on the site, not in the file, so you do not spoil it while you set up.

How you play a case

Open the brief, spread the pages, and note times and names. Then go back over the statements: one line does not fit, a map moves an alibi. There is no forced turn order. When you have an explanation that holds, compare it with the solution on the site.

How the evening goes

Put the case on the table

01

Put the case on the table

If you have the PDF, print it before anyone arrives. Keep a pencil and a sheet for the timeline. You do not need a set or a long rulebook.

Read the evidence

02

Read the evidence

Letters, statements, maps, and notes. Each document adds a fact, and not all of them are reliable. As a pair, one reads and the other writes. In a group, split the pages and bring them back to the centre.

Find the contradiction

03

Find the contradiction

Compare times, places, and who says they were where. Keep confirmed facts apart from theories. If two people cite the same time differently, the case is not closed yet.

Close with a theory

04

Close with a theory

Before you open the solution, say out loud who, how, and why. Then read the explanation through. The detail you skipped is usually what makes the evening clear.

What is in the case

Documents

A brief, statements, letters, and archive scraps. That is the case: there is no long rulebook to study first.

Clues to cross-check

Dates, names, and details repeated in more than one place. The work is connecting them, not opening a lock.

The solution on the site

Hints and the solution are not printed in the file. Open them when you are stuck, or when you want to close the case.

Not a murder mystery dinner, and not an escape room

A murder mystery dinner assigns a character and often a host. An escape room wants a timer, locks, and a room. A case to solve wants reading and one shared explanation. If the group wants to perform, a party kit fits better. If you want to work out what happened, this is the format.

When it fits

A night for two, a small birthday, a gift for someone who already owns too many objects. Theft at Venier Palace is available now: Venice, 1774, a missing portrait. Murder on Halloween Night is available too: London, 1890, a séance. Download the PDF and print it.

Quick questions

Do I have to print?
On this shop, yes: you receive a PDF and print it at home. A printed case file sent by post is only on the Italian shop.
How long is a case?
Usually 90–120 minutes. You can split it over two evenings.
Can two people play, or one?
Yes. It is built for 1–6 people. As a couple it is simplest: one file, two pencils.
Is it a party game with characters?
No. You do not play a suspect, and there is no host hiding envelopes. You read the same dossier and build a theory.
Is a printed copy available?
Not on the English shop. In Italy, Theft at Venier Palace and Murder on Halloween Night can both be posted.
Does someone need to know the solution?
No. Nobody has to be the game master. If you get stuck, open one hint on the site and go back to the documents.
